Park Deer Management Program Will Run October 2021 through March 2022

Gettysburg Countrywide Military services Park and Eisenhower Nationwide Historic Site will perform lethal removing of white-tailed deer as aspect of the White-tailed Deer Administration Plan/Environmental Impression Statement in between October 2021 as a result of March 2022. This motion addresses over-searching of native vegetation and agricultural crops and is a management approach that supports long- term safety, preservation, and restoration of significant factors of the cultural landscape and other natural and cultural methods whilst retaining a deer population at both of those park units. The cultural landscapes of the two park units are essential assets and critical to the interpretation of the situations that took position at each park.  

Looking is not permitted within the two parks–only qualified federal employees will consider section in the effort to regulate the deer populations affecting the parks. United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Wildlife Solutions will be performing the operate underneath an inter-company agreement with the Nationwide Park Support (NPS). NPS intently coordinates all actions associated with implementation of the program with the Borough of Gettysburg, bordering Townships which includes Cumberland, Mount Joy and Straban, point out law enforcement officials and with the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

In June of 2017 the Pennsylvania Game Fee specified a new Chronic Squandering Disorder (CWD) Administration Space which involves a part of Gettysburg Nationwide Navy Park and all of Eisenhower National Historic Web site. For this culling time all culled deer will be tested for CWD no matter of which spot they are taken from. After unfavorable CWD checks are confirmed, all venison will be donated to regional region foods financial institutions and non-revenue through United Way of Adams County.
