Lightning ignites Yellowstone’s first fire of 2021

A visitor documented Yellowstone’s initial wildland fire of the 12 months on the night of June 24. The Elk Creek Fireplace, .1 acre in sizing, is positioned on a ridge south of Blacktail Drive and west of Petrified Tree in the northern part of the park. This fireplace is becoming suppressed due to an unfavorable location this early in the fire season and is remaining promptly suppressed.
