Grand Canyon, AZ – The latest monsoon exercise in the region resulted in two new lightning ignited fires. Fireplace crews are actively operating to suppress and observe the two fires.

The Thumb Hearth was detected on Thursday, July 16th, 2020 and is situated together the western rim of the Great Thumb Mesa. Grand Canyon Nationwide Park is offering interagency assistance to the Truxton Canon Company and Havasupai Tribe. Close to 285 acres in sizing, present fire conduct is creeping and smoldering within just pinon-juniper forest. Fire supervisors program to observe the Thumb Fireplace.

The Tipover Fire was also detected on July 16th and is positioned north of Tiyo Place on the North Rim of the park. At present the fire is believed to be 1 acre in sizing. Smoke from the Thumb Fireplace is obvious from the South Rim of the park. At this time there are no closures. Grand Canyon National Park is acquiring interagency guidance from nearby resources from the North Zone Interagency Fire Administration Firm.
